All your life you’re told, “Your body is a temple. Worship it. Keep it holy. Save it for your spouse. Devote it to god. Feed it with healthy food. Keep it in good shape. Lose a few pounds, and I’ll love you. Dress this way, and I’ll love you. Can you do that?”

The answer, the only answer is, “It’s mine. I’ll decide.”

And then, you’re told, “How selfish and deluded. I know best. Do as I say, and I’ll love you. More than that, I’ll give you eternal life. What do you say to that?”

“It’s mine. I’ll decide.”

“You’re not understanding me, and that’s a sin. Your body is sinful. Cover it. Cover it more. Hide it. Cover your hair. Don’t speak. Don’t leave the house. Do as you’re told. Why can’t you be what I want you to be?”

“I’ve decided it’s mine.”

“Thank you.”
