Children chanted, “The fungus is among us!” because, in the beginning no one gave a second thought to the things, which had appeared overnight on lawns, houses, cars, anything staying still for a period of time. The homeless guys in the park had a rude awakening the morning after the… Well, you might as well call it the invasion, hindsight being 20/20 and all.

If you kept the lights on in your house at night, that was barrier enough to keep the fungus from getting inside. For a while. The fungus adapted, and soon no light, not even sunlight, slowed down the inevitable.

Evolution has always been a roll of the die, and this was no different. The fungus was no longer among us. It became us.

Or we became the fungus, and does that really matter now?
