Bookversary: noun, the anniversary of the publication of a book, i.e., bookversary; plural, bookversaries.

Authors are an odd lot. I say that as one of them. In some ways our books are as much ours as our children. We spend months (even years) creating them, and we release them at their maturity into the world. We celebrate their accomplishments: awards, reviews, rising to the top of a category list, etc. And their birthdays.

Why then, don’t we just say “book birthday?” How dull. We’re authors, and we’re odd. No, eccentric. We celebrate bookversaries.

END TIMES Bookversary

On April 19, 2018, book one of my series, A Perfect Hatred, debuted. End Times came out on that date, designed to coincide with the end of the FBI-Branch Davidian standoff in Waco, Texas, in 1993. The events of that standoff I fictionalized in End Times.

A year ago, I felt as if the two-year interval to publish the four-book series was a long time. A year later, with two books of the series published, the third in the final editing stage, and the publication of the concluding volume a year away, I feel as if time has flown by–especially considering I first started writing the scenes that became four novels in 1997.

So, book one, End Times, will have its one-year bookversary on Friday, April 19, 2019. At times over the past 22 years, I thought the story in A Perfect Hatred would never be published. But here we are, a year later, and well on the road to completion.
